UFC Versus II Josh Davis May 23, 2011 Events, Previews Sunday August 1, 2010 the UFC brings it’s second stacked card to the Versus network, featuring one of the UFC fastest rising stars Jon “Bones” Jones. Jones, who is coming off of a first round destruction of Brandon Vera at UFC Live: Vera vs Jones, is facing Vladimir Matyushenko. This is a very interesting match up. Jones has a very unorthodox, “I’ll try anything” fighting style in contrast to the straight forward wrestling style of Matyushenko. Matyushenko is going to work for the take downs and try to impose his will, use his veteran knowledge to ground and pound a victory, while Jones will try to use his length to keep the fight standing and work to out-strike Matyushenko to a victory. This has the potential to be a very exciting fight and again the UFC brings it to the fans free on Versus. In addition to the main event of Jones vs Matyushenko, there are nine other bouts scheduled for this event. The co-main event pits the always dangerous Yushin Okami against one of the middleweight division’s rising stars, Mark Munoz. There is a lot on the line for these two fighters as Okami wants to get back into title contention while Munoz wants to prove that he deserves to be mentioned with the division’s elite fighters. The rest of the televised card includes John Howard vs Jake Ellenberger and Tyson Griffin vs Takanori Gomi. Griffin vs Gomi is another interesting fight. Both fighters are coming off of a loss and have a lot to lose. Who ever loses this fight will likely drop to the very bottom of the light weight division and will also probably lose their main card status. The unaired events also feature some very exciting fights: Paul Kelly vs Jacob Volkmann, two Ultimate fighter alums Demarques Johnson vs Matthew Riddle, James Irvin vs Igor Pokrajac, Brian Stann vs Mike Massenzio, Darren Elkins vs Charles Oliveira, and Rob Kimmons vs Steve Steinbeiss. The UFC has stacked this card with bouts that will certainly bring the fans some exciting fights.
