WEC 50 is going to be an exciting night of fights.  The WEC has brought it’s fans another stacked card that is culminated by a rematch between Dominick Cruz and Joseph Benavidez and this time it is for Cruz’s WEC Bantam Weight belt.  Cruz defeated Benavidez last August and handed Benavidez his first professional loss.  Benavidez is looking to avenge this loss and he wants to do it by taking Cruz’s Bantam Weight championship.  Their previous fight was a three round battle but Cruz proved to be the better fighter on that night.  Benavidez looks to prove that his loss to Cruz was just a fluke and that he is truly the better fighter.  In the co main event of the evening, Shane Roller vs Anthony Pettis will be in a lightweight showdown.  Roller is on a three fight win streak and is hopeful that a win over Pettis will earn him a title shot.  Pettis on the other hand will look to derail Roller and move himself one step closer to a shot at the lightweight championship.  No matter what happens in these fights they will certainly have significant impacts on their divisions.

CRUZ vs BENAVIDEZ – Cruz was able to use his technical striking ability as well as his size and reach to his advantage to dictate the pace and style of the first fight between these two.  Benavidez was a game opponent but he was not able to overcome the challenges posed by Cruz.  This, however, will be a completely different fight.  Benavidez has stated that he did not really train correctly for Cruz and that he figured he would be able to adjust to his style in the cage.  This turned out to be a huge mistake that Benavidez has learned from and won’t make again.  Benavidez has trained hard for this and is ready for Cruz’s unorthodox style.  In order to win this fight, Benavidez is going to have to get in close and work Cruz to the mat so that he can work his submission skills.  If this fight stays on the feet Cruz will be able to use his size and reach advantage to out strike Benavidez much like what happened in the first fight.
Prediction: Cruz will again be able to use his size and reach to his advantage and he will out strike Benavidez to a win a five round decision.

ROLLER vs PETTIS - This fight is a very interesting matchup between two of the rising stars in WEC lightweight division.  Roller is on a three fight win streak and will look to use his wrestling to get the fight to the ground.  From there he will look to use his all American wrestling skills to work some ground and pound or to work a submission.  Pettis is an excellent athlete himself and is a very well rounded fighter.  Pettis does not have the wrestling background of Roller but he is no slouch when it comes to the submission game.  Pettis should have an advantage in the fight and if he can keep this fight standing he certainly could pull off the victory.
Prediction:  Roller’s wrestling skills will be too much for Pettis.  Roller will be able to take down and control the fight.  Roller by rear naked choke, round 2.

SWANSON vs MENDES - Swanson is an extremely talented fighter with very well rounded skills.  He is good on his feet, has solid take downs and good submission skills.  Swanson has also fought some of the best that the sport has to offer.  In this fight, Swanson will look to use his strikes and his take down defense to keep this fight on the feet.  Swanson will have the edge if he can keep this fight standing.  Mendes is a very tough opponent though, and he will give Swanson everything that he can handle.  Mendes is an outstanding wrestler and he will look to use his wrestling to take Swanson down and ground and pound his way to victory.  Mendes is a very fast paced, high energy fighter and he will look to overwhelm Swanson.
Prediction: Mendes will be able to take Swanson to the ground and pound out a victory.  Mendes by second round TKO.

JORGENSEN vs PICKETT - Jorgensen is on a four fight win streak and looks to continue his winning ways against Pickett.  Joergensen is a former three time Pac 10 wrestling champion and will look to use his wrestling to take down Pickett down and control the fight on the ground.  Pickett on the other hand has great stand up and will look to use his strikes and take down defense to keep the fight standing.  On the feet Pickett will look for a knock out.
Prediction: Jorgenesen’s wrestling will be too much for Pickett to handle.  Jorgensen wins a three round decision.

PALASZEWSKI vs MICKLEWRIGHT - After back to back losses in 2009, Palaszewski is now on a three fight win streak and wants to continues his winning ways.  Palaszewski is an excellent wrestler and a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  He has also improved his striking greatly over recent years and has become a very dangerous and well rounded fighter.  Micklewright, a former marine, will look to set the pace and dictate where the fight takes place.  Micklewright will look to improve to 2-0 in the WEC with a victory over Palaszewski.
Predictions: Palaszewski will be able to use his experience as well as his well rounded fight skills to overwhelm Micklewright.  Palaszewski wins via rear naked choke in Round 2.

No matter how these fights play out, they will certainly offer fans excitement.  Every fight on this card has the potential to be the fight of the night and the title bout main event has the potential to be fight of the year for the WEC.
