In the main event of the evening, Jose Aldo puts his featherweight championship on line against Judo specialist Manny Gamburyan in a fight that is sure to be action packed. Aldo has destroyed everybody he has faced in the WEC, including Mike Brown at WEC 44 (to win the title) and Uriah Faber at WEC 48 (his first title defense). Aldo is currently undefeated in the WEC, on a ten fight win streak and has not been defeated since November of 2005. Depsite Aldo’s impressive resume, Gamburyan is not afraid. Gamburyan is a very poweful and explosive featherweight that will bring the fight to Aldo and will not hesitate to engage in a striking war with the champion. Gamburyan, who has not lost since joining the WEC in 2009, wants to prove to the world that he is the best 145 lb fighter in the world. The co-main event is a grudge match between two fighters that have made it clear that they do not like each other and are looking to hurt each other. In a rematch from WEC 38, Jamie Varner takes on Donald Cerrone in a fight with the winner putting himself in line for a title shot. Their first meeting was a five round war for Varner’s lightweight championship. The fight ended in controversy as Varner was unable to continue after an illegal knee strike and Varner won a split decision. Since then, Cerrone has made it very clear that he does not like Varner and continually asked for a rematch. Finally the WEC has given him that opportunity and he is going to do his best to take advantage. Cerrone feels that he should have won the first fight and he is going to prove that in their rematch. Varner feels that he would have won the fight regardless of the knee strike and says that the rematch will have the same result. The rest of the televised card also includes several exciting fights. Miguel Torres will attempt to get back to his winning ways as he takes on a very tough Charlie Valencia in a fight that will put the winner in the title mix of the bantamweight division. In another featherweight bout, Chan Sung Jung takes on George Roop. Jung is coming off a loss against Leonard Garcia at WEC 48 in a fight that many people feels was one of the best fights ever. Roop also fought Garcia in his last fight at WEC 47, resulting in a draw. Both fighters are in need of a win to stay relevant in the division and will do everything they can to get one. In a bout that will have a significant impact in the featherweight division, Mark Hominick takes on Leonard Garcia. Hominick asked for this fight and now he needs to prove to everybody that he deserves to be mentioned with the best in the division. Hominick is on a three fight win streak, and wants to use his technical striking to out box Garcia to a victory and continue his march towards a title shot. Garcia is one of the most exciting fighters in the history of mixed martial arts and has never put on a disappointing performance. Garcia, who is coming off of a victory over Chan Sung Jung at WEC 48 hopes that he can use his unorthodox, come at you from all angles style and frustrate Hominick in the striking game and out work him to a victory.
