GSP vs Diaz set for UFC 137 in October

UFC President Dana White surprised MMA fans on Wednesday afternoon with a tweet announcing the news that UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz would collide at UFC 137 on October 29 from Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

Unbeaten since 2007, St-Pierre has barely losing a round since regaining his title from Matt Serra in 2008.  He has defeated the likes of Jon Fitch, BJ Penn, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, Josh Koscheck, and Jake Shields.

Diaz, like GSP, has not lost since 2007. Along the way, the veteran has defeated Frank Shamrock, Scott Smith, Mach Sakurai, KJ Noons, and Paul Daley.

Amanda Nunes out of June 18 bout with Julie Kedzie due to foot fracture

A hairline fracture of the foot has forced out Amanda Nunes from her June 18 bout against Julie Kedzie at the Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum event in Dallas.  Nunes (6-1) also has a serious contusion on the foot.  In the best case scenario, Nunes could begin light training by next week, but no determination will be made until that time.

The fight between Nunes and Kedzie (16-8) was slated for 135 pounds.  Nunes made her Strikeforce debut Jan. 7 and knocked out Julia Budd in 14 seconds in a 145-pound match.  Nunes has finished each of her opponents since losing her MMA debut.

Kedzie, a 30-year-old veteran of EliteXC and Bodog, has run off four straight wins to work her way back into the big show.  It is not known if there is a replacement for Nunes to compete against Kedzie, who is a mainstay at Greg Jackson’s MMA.
