‘Jacare’ defends Strikeforce belt against Luke Rockhold on Sept 10

Six straight wins have earned American Kickboxing Academy middleweight Luke Rockhold a title shot against Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza on September 10.

Rockhold and Souza were rumored to meet on the July 30 fight card featuring Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson, but the bout will now shift to later date.

While the fight card has been slated for Sept. 10, no venue or location has been announced or secured by Strikeforce officials at this time.


Shark Fights 16 slotted for June 25 with Neer vs. Juarez, Mutapcic vs. Young

Shark Fights returns on June 25 with a main event bout between UFC veteran and current interim Shark Fights welterweight champ Josh Neer (29-10-1) and Jesse Juarez (15-7).  In the night’s co-main Elvis Mutapcic (8-1) meets fellow middleweight Arteneas Young (6-3).

According to the organization’s website, Shark Fights 16 takes place in Odessa, Texas, likely at Ector County Coliseum.

Currently, no live-broadcast plans have been announced, but the show will air on a three-week delay on Fuel TV, which recently expanded a deal with the Texas-based promotion.


Horwich-Rosholt Rematch Headlines Shark Fight 17 on July 15

Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt will meet for the second time on July 15 when the former UFC middleweights face off in the main event of Shark Fights 17.

Officials for the Texas-based promotion also revealed that July the card will air live on cable channel HDNet from Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas.

The two fighters first met at a November Xtreme Fight Night event in Tulsa, Okla., where submission ace Horwich surprised many by stopping the three-time NCAA Division I wrestling champ with third-round strikes from back-mount.
