2011 Bill to legalize MMA in New York not likely to happen

“There does not appear to be widespread support in the Assembly for this legislation,” NY Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, the most powerful man in the state’s capital, stated on Tuesday. Silver’s words run contrary to what appears to be growing support for the bill, which passed through the state senate by a 42-18 vote, the Assembly’s Tourism, Parks, Arts and Sports and Parks Development committee by a 16-3 vote, and is expected to win approval from the Assembly Codes committee next week.  However, the recently re-elected Democrat has the influence to prevent a bill from ever being introduced for a full vote, so his statements likely spell the end of hope for legalization of the sport in New York this year.

UFC 131 Prelims to stream on YouTube in addition to Facebook

As if it wasn’t enough for the UFC to make preliminary card fights available to fans for free, the organization is now providing multiple outlets where viewers can tune in.  The move is an effort to expand the availability of the broadcast to non-Facebook users.  YouTube has opened an event page for UFC 131 and will air the same five bout lineup as Facebook.  The broadcast begins at 5:50 p.m. ET, preceding the Spike TV Prelims broadcast that starts at 8 p.m. ET.
