Tim Kennedy to fight Robbie Lawler at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson”

Strikeforce today announced via Twitter that middleweight contenders Tim Kennedy and Robbie Lawler will square off at the July 30 Strikeforce show in Chicago.  Lawler is looking to rebound from a title fight loss to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, the only person to beat Kennedy in the military hero’s last six outings.  Meanwhile, Kennedy is looking to follow-up on his March win over Melvin Manhoef.  There’s no word yet on the fight’s placement on the card, though a battle of top middleweights such as these two is likely to land on the main Showtime-televised card.

Marius Zaromskis to rematch Hayato Sakurai at July 16 Dream event

The last time these two met, Sakurai struggled to make weight and lost via first-round TKO stoppage to Zaromskis, who was in the midst of a run through the Dream welterweight grand prix.  Now, Zaromskis, the reigning Dream 170-pound champ, is in a five-fight stretch where he has picked up just one win, while losing three bouts and having another declared a no-contest.  Meanwhile, Sakurai has continued his own skid, dropping three straight bouts after his loss to Zaromskis.  The two will look to reverse their fortunes when they meet in a non-title bout at “Fight for Japan: Dream 2011 Bantamweight Japan Tournament Final.”

Neer vs. Avena, Alessio vs. Spiritwolf set as co-headliners for Superior Cage Combat 2

Tachi Palace Fights, a promotion in which John Alessio holds the welterweight title, nixed a planned headliner between Alessio and Josh Neer from the Superior Cage Combat 2 event, so the two men will instead fight in separate bouts on the Aug. 20 card in Las Vegas.  Neer draws Blas Avena, while Alessio will take on Waachiim Spiritwolf.
