Marquardt fails to get medical clearance; shockingly cut from the UFC.

Due to late medical licensing issues, Nate Marquardt has been pulled from Sunday’s UFC Live main event in Pittsburgh. Stepping in to face Rick Story on the main card will be Pennsylvania’s own Charlie Brenneman.

The Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry heavyweight bout has been elevated to the main event slot. The event airs on Versus at 9pm ET / 6pm PT.

UFC President Dana White tweeted a video shortly afterward stating that Marquardt is no longer a part of the promotion.

John Makdessi injured, forced out of UFC on Versus 5 bout with Paul Taylor

Undefeated lightweight prospect John Makdessi (9-0) has been forced to withdraw from a planned UFC on Versus 5 contest with Paul Taylor (11-6-1) due to an undisclosed injury.

Featuring a welterweight main event between sluggers Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle, UFC on Versus 5 takes place Aug. 14 at Bradley Center in Milwaukee. The night’s main card airs on Versus.

Roger Gracie forced out of Strikeforce fight against “King Mo” Lawal

Roger Gracie has sustained an injury and has been forced him out of his bout against Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.

Inside MMA first reported Gracie’s withdraw on Friday and now Lawal has also been removed from the July 30 card.  Lawal is expected to return in September, although no opponent has been announced at this time.  If Gracie’s injury heals in time, it is possible the two will still meet in September.

UFC signs Hatsu Hioki

Reigning Sengoku featherweight and Shooto lightweight champ Hatsu Hioki has signed with the UFC. Terms of the deal, which the promotion announced via Twitter, were not disclosed.

Hioki brings a 24-4-2 record into the UFC, with wins over Marlon Sandro, Mark Hominick, “Lion” Takeshi Inoue, Masanori Kanehara and Jeff Curran.

Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos out of Paul Daley bout at Strikeforce

Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos has injured his shoulder during his training camp and has withdrawn from his welterweight clash with Paul Daley.  The bout was expected to be on the main card of Strikeforce: Fedor vs Henderson. The event is takes place on July 30, 2011 from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Ovince St-Preux vs. Joe Cason Slated for Strikeforce Challengers 17

Strikeforce light heavyweight Ovince St-Preux (10-4) will meet newcomer Joe Cason (9-1) at Strikeforce Challengers 17 on July 22.

Strikeforce Challengers 17 will mark the organization’s first event in Las Vegas. It will be held at the Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort and will air on Showtime. The main event will feature Roger Bowling vs. Bobby Voelker III.
