Jake Shields, Jake Ellenberger Likely for Fall UFC Fight

Former welterweight title challenger Jake Shields will likely face rising contender Jake Ellenberger later this fall.  The fight has not yet been made official by the UFC, but the fighters have agreed to the planned matchup.

While a location for the fight is not yet certain, one possibility is the UFC’s planned Nov. 19 card in San Jose, Calif. That will be the promotion’s debut in the northern California city, about 40 miles south of the San Francisco Bay area, where Shields lives and trains. That event is likely to be UFC 138, though it has not yet been made official by the UFC.

Following his knockout of Ramsey Nijem to win the Ultimate Fighter season 13 crown, Tony Ferguson will return to the Octagon on September 24 to face veteran Aaron Riley at UFC 135.

Ferguson will make his promotional lightweight debut at the bout, which will take place from the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo.

Cerrone replaces Makdessi against Taylor

After injury forced John Makdessi to withdraw from his lightweight bout against Brit Paul Taylor, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone will step in to take his place.

The bout takes place on August 14 from Milwaukee, Wis. at UFC on Versus 5.

Paul Daley vs. Tyron Woodley targeted for “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson”

After Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos was forced out of a planned bout with British slugger Paul Daley, the undefeated Tyron Woodley will now replace him at “Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson.”

The welterweight bout is in the process of being finalized for the card.  It is not clear if Nick Diaz’s recently vacated welterweight title will be on the line.

“Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Henderson” takes place July 30 at Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Ill. The main card, including a Fedor Emelianenko vs. Dan Henderson heavyweight headliner, airs live on Showtime.

Konrad vs. Buentello, Rodriguez vs. Petruzelli Added to Bellator 48

Bellator has lined up two heavyweight matchups, Cole Konrad vs. Paul Buentello and Ricco Rodriguez vs. Seth Petruzelli, for Bellator 48 on Aug. 20 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn.

Bellator 48 will be the third and final 2011 Summer Series events and is expected to feature the finals of the featherweight tournament which kicked off this past Saturday.

The Konrad vs. Buentello non-title fight was originally announced for Bellator 42 in April, but Buentello would later withdraw due to a back injury.

Rodriguez and Petruzelli will both be making their Bellator debuts. Although Bellator is billing this as a heavyweight bout, the agreed upon catchweight is 230 pounds, according to Petruzelli.
