Jarred Mercado to face Brian Wood at Ring of Fire 41

Mercado

Undefeated featherweight prospect Jarred Mercado has already posted two wins within Colorado-based organizations, and now he’s seeking his third.  After two victories under the Rocky Mountain Bad Boyz banner, Mercado will now shift to the more well-known Ring of Fire organization for his third outing.  He will meet Ring of Fire veteran Brian Wood at Ring of Fire 41 on Aug. 20.

After notching a couple of quick wins as an amateur, Mercado continued his trend of first-round stoppages as a professional mixed martial artist.  The Grudge Training Center and Easton Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu product defeated Nick Buschman via rear-naked choke in March and followed up with a TKO victory over Pete Vandervort in June.  With two first-round finishes, Mercado has only seen a little over four minutes of in-ring action as a pro.

His foe, Wood, is just 1-2 and has not fought since September of 2009.  Wood’s most recent fight marked his lone win, as he submitted Ruben Vera.

While Mercado could be considered the favorite in this match-up, the prospect isn’t taking this fight lightly.

“Even though he has not fought in almost two years, he is still a very dangerous opponent,” Mercado said of Wood.  “He is a very well-rounded fighter and wants to prove that he still belongs. I have been training as hard as ever for this fight and I am expecting a war.”

Ring of Fire 41 takes place Aug. 20 at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colo.
