Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix semifinals set for September 10

With only four fighters remaining in the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, sources close to the promotion reported to mmajunkie.com that they have set a date of Sept. 10 for the two semifinal fights.  A specific city and venue have not yet been determined.  The two semifinal fights consist of Josh Barnett versus Sergei Kharitonov and Alistair Overeem versus Antonio Silva.

UFC 136 adds Dave Herman vs Mike Russo, Josh Grispi vs Matt Grice

Late Thursday night, the UFC revealed that Dave Herman will face Mike Russo at UFC 136. Official bout agreements have yet to be signed, but Dana White did confirm that both fighters have verbally agreed to the matchup. Herman is coming off of a victory at UFC 131 and Russo is currently riding a 10 fight win streak.

The UFC also announced that Josh Grispi and Matt Grice will meet each other at the event. Grispi, who was once thought to be a contender to Jose Aldo’s title, has lost two straight fights. Grice is also coming off of a loss in his featherweight debut at UFC Live 4.

Strikeforce Challengers 18 Fight Card gets Milton Vieira vs Bobby Green

Two of Strikforce’s most recent signings, Milton Vieira and Bobby Green, get their first fight and it just happens to be against each other.  Independent sources close to the organization confirmed with MMA Weekly that these two will face each other at Strikeforce Challengers 18 in Las Vegas on Aug. 12.  Vieira is 12-7-1 as a professional and is widely considered to be the creator of the anaconda choke.  Green is 15-4 and 4-1 in his last four fights.

Demian Maia meets Jorge Santiago at UFC 136

UFC 136 is quickly filling up, and Demian Maia and Jorge Santiago are also rumored to fight each other on the card.  The promotion has not officially confirmed the bout, but it is expected to be a part of the event.  Both Maia and Santiago are coming off of losses, so it is unclear if this fight will be a part of the pay-per-view portion of the event or if it will be on the undercard.

Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard Headline UFC 136 in Houston

UFC officials announced today that both fighters have recovered from injury and have been cleared to compete and are now scheduled to headline UFC 136 in Houston on Aug. 6.  This will be the third meeting between the two, with Maynard winning the first and the two fought to a draw in their second outing.    These two were originally scheduled to meet at UFC 130, but both fighters were forced out due to injury.

Melvin Guillard to Face Joe Lauzon at UFC 136

The UFC officially announced another bout today, confirming that Joe Lauzon will meet Melvin Guillard.  With both fighters battling each other via different social networks, it made it very easy for the UFC to make this fight happen.  Bout agreements have not yet been signed, but both fighters have verbally agreed to the fight.

Carlos Condit vs BJ Penn Targeted as Co-Main Event for UFC 137 Fight Card

This fight had been rumored and talked about for several days. Both fighters involved also discussed this fight via their Twitter accounts and it looks like it is finally going to happen at UFC 137.  Both fighters have agreed to the bout as well as the date and are awaiting the official bout agreements to be sent out by the UFC.

UFC 136 Gets Second Title Fight as Champ Jose Aldo meets Kenny Florian

The UFC keeps stacking UFC 136 with top fights and today announced another title fight between featherweight champion Jose Aldo and No. 1 contender Kenny Florian.  Aldo made his first title defense against Mark Hominick at UFC 129 and was forced out of the UFC 133 card due to injury.  Now healthy, he hopes to make his second straight title defense.  Florian, who made his featherweight debut at UFC 131, earned his title shot by defeating Diego Nunes.
