Nunes meets Gamburyan, Escovedo battles Mizugaki at UFC 135

The UFC 135 card set for Sept. 24 from the Pepsi Center in Denver is closer to completion.

Featherweights Diego Nunes and Manny Gamburyan will square off, while bantamweights Cole Escovedo and Takeya Mizugaki likely battle for their jobs.

Verbal agreements are in place for both bouts.


Nate Marquardt signs with BAMMA

The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) has announced the signing of former UFC contender Nate Marquardt. The organization will reveal Marquardt’s next opponent and more details on his BAMMA debut in the coming weeks. Marquardt holds notable wins over names like Yves Edwards, Jeremy Horn, Demian Maia, Martin Kampmann, Rousimar Palhares and many others.

Marquardt recently made the decision to drop down to the 170lb division and was expected to make his welterweight debut in June at UFC on Versus 4 against Rick Story, but was unexpectedly pulled from the card the day of weigh-ins due medical clearance issues. Shortly after, he was released by the UFC. It was later revealed that medically prescribed hormone replacement therapy caused the elevated testosterone levels that lead to his release.

John Hathaway faces Pascal Krauss at UFC 138 in England

UK based John Hathaway will meet German fighter Pascal Krauss at UFC 138.

Verbal agreements are in place for the fight.

UFC 138 takes place Nov. 5 at the 16,000-seat LG Arena at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England.

The event’s main card airs on Spike TV.

Galvao Injured; Strikeforce Vet In to Face Lopez at Tachi Palace Fights

Due to an undisclosed injury, Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Andre Galvao has been forced off the Tachi Palace 10 card.  David Marshall will now face fellow welterweight Jorge Lopez at Tachi Palace Fights 10 “Let the Chips Fall.”

TPF 10 goes down Aug. 5 at the Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, Calif., and will stream free on Sherdog.com.

Lashley scratched from Titan FC 19; French vs. Krause, Evinger vs. McMann headline

Bobby Lashley has been forced to withdraw from next week’s Titan Fighting Championship 19 event due to personal reasons.

Titan Fighting Championship officials on Friday morning announced the heavyweight’s removal from the card, simultaneously promoting a 160-pound catchweight fight between Clay French and James Krause to the evening’s main event.

Lashley is now expected to return to action at Titan Fighting Championship 20, which takes place Aug. 26.

Lashley had been expected to face Eddie Sanchez (12-5). It’s currently unknown if the UFC vet will remain on board for the August date.

Big-show veterans French and Krause now headline the event, which takes place July 29 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan. The night’s main card airs on HDNet.
