Alistair Overeem to fight in October, but not with Strikeforce

After getting booted from Strikeforce’s Heavyweight World Grand Prix for refusing to compete on the promotion’s September event, “The Demolition Man” is now set for his next fight.  Just one thing: It’s not with Strikeforce…or any Zuffa-owned organization, for that matter.

Overeem will now fight on the Glory World Series card, planned for late October in Moscow, against an undetermined opponent.  Overeem’s trainer, who also happens to be the Glory World Series promoter, stated that the fight will likely be a mixed martial arts contest.

Another Strikeforce fighter, Sergei Kharitonov, also appears on the Glory World Series poster for the event.  Kharitonov is still in the Strikeforce heavyweight tourney and is headlining the same September show in which Overeem declined to participate.

Ricardo Tirloni headed to Bellator

The Brazilian lightweight has verbally agreed to a multi-fight contract with Bellator and is expected to make his promotional debut in a non-tournament bout during the organization’s fifth season.  The 13-1 Tirloni is currently riding a 10-fight winning streak and suffered his only career loss versus former WEC lightweight kingpin Benson Henderson.  While Tirloni holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, he has also showcased an impressive striking arsenal in his MMA fights, scoring five of his wins via some form of knockout.

Andrei Arlovski to fight Ray Lopez in ProElite debut

It’s been almost three years since Arlovski has found his hand raised at the end of a fight.  His best chance to reverse that trend might come in his ProElite debut, where he’ll take on the 5-2 Lopez.  Lopez does have a professional boxing background, with a 3-4 record, but his MMA resume only features two wins via some form of knockout.

The fight joins a card which already features a middleweight clash between UFC veterans Kendall Grove and Joe Riggs, as well as the MMA debut of BJ Penn’s younger brother, Reagan.  ProElite’s show is scheduled for Aug. 27 in Hawaii.
