Michael Bisping signs eight-fight deal with the UFC

The winner of the light heavyweight tournament on the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will be sticking around with the promotion for a lot longer, that is if he can continue to win.  According to Anthony McGann, Bisping’s manager, “The Count” has signed an eight-fight deal with the UFC.

The England native is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, and is most recently coming off a controversial victory over Jorge Rivera at UFC 127.  Bisping is scheduled to take on opposing coach Jason Miller on Dec. 3 in the headlining fight at “The Ultimate Fighter” season 14 finale.

Father and manager of UFC fighter Jake Shields, Jack Shields passes away at age 67

The father of former UFC welterweight No. 1 contender Jake Shields passed away in his home on Monday at the age of 67.  Jack Shields was not just the father of the fighter, but also his manager, having negotiated many contracts for his son, including a current deal with the UFC.

According to the Cesar Gracie product, his father sat down to rest after working on sponsorship deals for his son when he nodded off and eventually passed away peacefully in his sleep.  Jack Shields was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 2010, but it is unknown whether or not this contributed to his passing.

Bellator to be broadcast in high definition

Sept. 10 is the day that season five of Bellator Fighting Championship kicks off.  MTV2 will continue to be the home of the promotion, however it was announced today that EPIX, the premium channel owned by Viacom, Inc. will simulcast the show in high definition.  MTV2 will continue to broadcast Bellator events in standard definition.

Season five will feature heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight and bantamweight single-elimination tournaments.

Joe Soto out of Bellator season five bantamweight tournament

After a recent loss at Tachi Palace Fights 10 to Eddie Yagin, Joe Soto has been removed from the Bellator season five bantamweight tournament.  Wilson Reis will step in to replace the inaugural featherweight champion and takes on Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 51.  This will be the fourth tournament that the Brazilian has competed in for the promotion, with this being the first time outside of a featherweight tournament.

Bellator 51 will take place on Sept. 24 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center in Canton, Ohio.

Ole Laursen out of ONE Fighting Championship Main Event

There has been a change in the inaugural card to be held by ONE Fighting Championship, as injured Ole Laursen will be replaced by A Sol Kwon and will take on Eduard Folayang.  Kwon, a South Korean, will put his 17-6 record on the line against Folayang’s 9-1 record.

ONE Fighting Championship “Champion vs. Champion” will take place this Saturday at 7 a.m. ET and will stream on Sherdog.com.  The card will also feature a welterweight bout between two former UFC veterans in Phil Baroni and Yoshiyuki Yoshida.

Pascal Krauss out of UFC 138 due to injury

Welterweight Pascal Krauss has pulled out of his fight at UFC 138 due to a dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his left shoulder.  The German was scheduled to take on John Hathaway in his second fight for the promotion.  The injury will likely leave him sidelined for the rest of the year.
