Diego Sanchez breaks hand; UFC searching for replacement

Former Ultimate Fighter winner, Diego “The Dream” Sanchez has suffered a broken hand during training and has been forced out of the UFC 135 co-main event against fellow welterweight Matt Hughes.

UFC President Dana White released the news via his Twitter account.  The promotion is searching for a replacement fighter.

The event takes place on Sept. 24 from the Pepsi Center in Denver and is headlined by a light heavyweight title bout between champion Jon Jones and challenger Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

Fedor Emelianenko returns to action in Russia

Vadim Finkelstein, co-founder of M-1 Global, has confirmed that Russian heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight in his homeland for the first time since April 2007.

However, Finkelstein stopped short of naming a date, place, or opponent for the bout.

There was speculation that Emelianenko could choose retirement after dropping three straight bouts in Strikeforce, but the announcement put that to rest.

Gegard Mousasi targeted for Strikeforce event on Dec. 17

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi will return to action at a yet to be announced Strikeforce card set for Dec. 17. An opponent has yet to be named for the event, which is currently without a city and venue.

Mousasi’s last appearance with the promotion resulted in a draw against Keith Jardine at “Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley.”


Cub Swanson returns against Ricardo Lamas at UFC on Fox

Featherweight Cub Swanson will make his long-awaited UFC debut as he meets Ricardo Lamas as part of November’s UFC on FOX 1 event.

UFC on FOX 1 takes place Nov. 12 at Anaheim, Calif.’ Honda Center.

A heavyweight championship fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos airs on FOX, while Swanson vs. Lamas will be part of the preliminary card.

Robert Peralta signs with UFC, meets Mike Lullo at UFN 25

The UFC has signed Robert Peralta and he will make his Octagon debut against fellow featherweight Mike Lullo at Ultimate Fight Night 25: Battle on the Bayou.

The fight will take place on the preliminary portion of the fight card which takes place Sept. 17 at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The main card is set to air on Spike TV.

Peralta enters the promotion riding a seven-fight winning streak.
