Controversy Surrounds Condit, Diaz, St-Pierre and the Title Shot

Amid rumors, Condit’s agent Malki Kawa released a statement to HDNet’s Inside MMA program on Monday denying that Condit stepped aside for Nick Diaz. What makes this piece of news even more juicy is that UFC president Dana White publicly stated that Condit agreed to step aside. It appears that after Diaz’s calling out of the champ Georges St-Pierre, White wants to capitalize on the pending fight.

“We are obviously disappointed in the UFC’s decision to cancel its commitment with Carlos Condit to give another fighter an opportunity at the welterweight title based on emotional reactions from UFC 137,” Kawa told Inside MMA in a prepared statement. “Contrary to what has been stated, Carlos did not step aside to allow this to happen and would not just hand over an opportunity for him to achieve his greatest career goal, one that he has earned through his strong performances in the octagon. No option was given to him.”

Taylor Injured, Fight with Njokuani Scratched from UFC 138

Paul Taylor was involved in a minor car accident Monday night. Taylor was rear-ended at a red light and suffered whiplash, forcing him off the card. Taylor was slated to fight Njokuani. Due to the withdrawal being so close to the fight, the bout will not be replaced.

In place of the Taylor v. Njokuani fight, Anthony Perosh vs. Cyrille Diabate will move to the main card.

UFC 138 takes place Saturday at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, England. The night’s main card airs on Spike TV (via same-day delay), and the prelims stream live on Facebook.
