Rivera vs. Schafer and more set for UFC on FX 1

UFC President Dana White announced verbal agreements are in place for a middleweight match in Nashville on Jan. 20 between Eric “Red” Schafer and Jorge “El Conquistador” Rivera.

Also a myriad of international stars and new signees will appear on the card, as verbal agreements were also reached  in three other matchups.

First, former featherweight champion Mike Brown looks to stay title-relevant as he takes on Vagner Rocha. Second, a new signee in the form of Sweden’s Reza “Mad Dog” Madadi will make his UFC debut against Rafaello Oliveira in a lightweight bout. Third,  light heavyweight, Ryan “Big Deal” Jimmo, currently flaunting a 16-fight win streak, will also make his UFC debut against Czech powerhouse Karlos Vemola.

Alves vs. Kampmann Confirmed

UFC President Dana White was busy today, as he also announced a verbal agreement has been reached between Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann and Thiago “Pit Bull” Alves in welterweight match. No specifics were given, other than the match will reportedly take place early in 2012 on the FX Network.

John Olav Einemo set to return to the UFC against Russow

Surprisingly, after his entertaining UFC debut at UFC 131, Einemo was cut from the UFC. Once the dust settled the confirmed story surfaced that Einemo’s management company’s policies conflicted with the UFC’s policies with respect to paying fighters. Nonetheless, the matter has been resolved and Einemo has re-signed with the promotion and is set to face Mike Russow as part of the upcoming UFC on FOX 2 card on Jan. 28, which will take place from the United Center in Chicago.

Ellenberger vs. Sanchez to Headline Feb. 15 UFC Event on Fuel TV

A key welterweight matchup between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez has been scheduled for Feb. 15. Although UFC officials have not made an official announcement, sources indicated that the event will likely take place in Ellenberger’s hometown of Omaha, Neb., and air on Fuel TV.

UFC 143:  Kuiper vs. Natal Confirmed

A match between undeafeated Michael Kuiper and Rafeal “Soto” Natal has been confirmed to take place Feb. 4 at UFC 143 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.  The card is highly anticipated, as Carlos Condit was expected to face Georges St-Pierre at UFC 143 before Nick Diaz called out the champ following his UFC 137 win over B.J. Penn.

UFC and ION Television Partner in Lieu of Spike TV’s VGA’s

Spike TV and the UFC continue to move apart as Spike TV is set to air its Video Game Awards on Dec. 10, causing UFC to turn to ION Television to air the Ultimate Fighting Championship. UFC officials confirmed a total of four contests from December’s UFC 140 card at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre will air on ION Television. The matches featured on the ION broadcast include Igor Pokrajac vs. Krzysztof Soszynski, Jared Hamman vs. Constantinos Philippou, Dennis Hallman vs. John Makdessi and Yves Jabouin vs. Walel Watson.

UFC officials also confirmed the special marks the promotion’s final broadcast on ION Television before starting an exclusive partnership with the FOX family in 2012.

UFC 141 Spike TV Special Features Njokuani vs. Nijem and Assuncao vs. Pearson

Spike TV and UFC have teamed to air a two-fight special of  the preliminary card for UFC 141 scheduled to take place on Dec. 30 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The broadcast will feature lightweights Ramsey Nijem vs. Anthony Njokuani and featherweights Junior Assuncao vs. Ross Pearson.
