Phil Davis and Rashad Evans to headline UFC on Fox 2

Davis and Evans were to lock horns at UFC 133, but it didn’t work out.  Now the two light heavyweights will get a second opportunity to battle inside the Octagon.  Davis and Evans will meet in the main event of UFC on Fox 2, which takes place Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago.  The bout is likely to determine a top contender for the light heavyweight championship, which Jon Jones will defend against Lyoto Machida on Dec. 10.

Bobby Voelker signs five-fight extension with Strikeforce

Elite MMA Management today confirmed that their client, Bobby Voelker, has signed a five-fight extension with Strikeforce.  The welterweight is 4-1 through five appearances with the promotion, all of which took place on the Challengers series.

TUF Finals set for Saturday

With the final episode of The Ultimate Fighter 14 in the books, the two finals of the season are set.  Diego Brandao finished Bryan Caraway via strikes in the first round of their featherweight semi-final match-up via strikes to advance to a Saturday night meeting with Dennis Bermudez.  Meanwhile, John Dodson stopped Johnny Bedford by way of strikes in the second round of their semi-final bout to punch his ticket to the finale, where he will meet TJ Dillashaw in the bantamweight finals.

Two bantamweight clashes added to TUF 14 Finale

Four bantamweights from the just-concluded season of The Ultimate Fighter might not have made it to the finals of their weight class, but they are headed to the finale just the same.  Dustin Pague will meet fellow cast member John Albert at Saturday’s event, while Johnny Bedford will take on Louis Gaudinot.  Bedford and Pague both advanced to the semi-finals on the show before being eliminated.

TUF 14 featherweight teammates to fight at Finale

Two members of Team Bisping will get another chance after falling short in the TUF 14 featherweight bracket.  Marcus Brimage will meet TUF teammate Stephen Bass at Saturday’s TUF 14 Finale at The Pearl at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.  The undefeated Bass lost to eventual finalist Dennis Bermudez on the show, while Brimage fell to Bryan Caraway.

Stefan Struve meets Dave Herman at first UFC event on Fuel TV

Heavyweights Stefan Struve and Dave Herman have verbally agreed to fight at the UFC’s inaugural show on Fuel TV.  UFC on Fuel 1 takes place Feb. 15 in Omaha, Neb.

Brett Rogers sentenced to 60 days in jail

Rogers received a sentence of 60 days in jail and three years probation after pleading guilty to felony third-degree assault for the June 28 beating of his wife that left her with a broken jaw.  The judge approved Rogers’ request to travel for a schedule Dec. 31 fight, but would not postpone his sentence until after the fight to allow him to train.

Showtime to air M-1 Challenge 30

If MMA fans’ schedules weren’t busy enough between December’s upcoming UFC and Strikeforce events, plus HDNet’s full schedule of live MMA action, Showtime has added a Dec. 9 event to its broadcast schedule.  The premium cable network will air the main card of M-1 Challenge 30.  The card, which takes place in Costa Mesa, Calif., features a welterweight title tilt between champion Shamil Zavurov and challenger Yasubey Enomoto.  The main card will include five fights total and the broadcast begins at 11 p.m. ET.

Jorge Lopez to meet Amir Sadollah at UFC 143

The UFC today announced that verbal agreements are in place for a welterweight showdown between Wanderlei Silva protege Jorge Lopez and TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah.

UFC 143 takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Feb. 4.

Cage Warriors adds 125-pound women’s division

The last time the U.K.-based Cage Warriors Fighting Championship crowned a women’s champion, it was 2005 and Rosi Sexton had captured the belt.  Until now, she has been the only female to hold a belt in the promotion. However, that will soon change.  The organization has created a 125-pound women’s division and plans to crown a new champ in 2012.  A date has yet to be set for the title fight and the participants have yet to be announced, but Sexton appears to be among the top contenders, along with Aisling Daly and Sheila Gaff.
