Luke Rockhold Slated to defend Strikeforce Middleweight Title Against Keith Jardine

Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold’s next title defense will come against UFC veteran Keith Jardine on Jan. 7.

Strikeforce has not yet officially announced the venue, but it is expected to take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

Rockhold was expected to defend his title against Tim Kennedy, but Kennedy couldn’t compete due to injury.

For Jardine, this will be his first fight at 185 pounds.

Danny ‘Boy’ Downes Released by the UFC

After two straight losses, Danny Downes’ time in the UFC has ended.

The lightweight announced his release from the promotion on his Twitter account on Friday.

“To those asking, Zuffa has ‘exercised its right to accelerate the term of its promotional and other obligations.’ In other words I’m cut.”

 Cody McKenzie says he’s fighting Michael Johnson at UFC on Fox 2

According to Cody McKenzie’s Twitter account, he will be taking on Ultimate Fighter Season 12 teammate Michael Johnson at UFC on Fox 2.

UFC on Fox 2 will take place on Jan. 28 in Chicago at the United Center. Rashad Evans and Phil Davis are expected to headline the show.

Efrain Escudero Replaces Paul Kelly at Legacy Fighting Championship 9

Legacy Fighting Championship, based in Texas, announced today that Paul Kelly has pulled out of his upcoming fight and will be replaced by TUF 8 winner Efrain Escudero.

Escudero will take on Jeff Rexroad on Dec. 16 from the Houston Arena Theater in Houston.

The event will air live on HDNet starting at 10 p.m. ET.

UFC signs ‘The Ninja of Love’ Nick Denis to multi-fight contract

A Canadian bantamweight has been added to the UFC roster.

Nick Denis, also known as “The Ninja of Love,” brings his 10-2 MMA record to the promotion as part of a multi-fight deal.

It’s not yet known when Denis will make his debut in the Octagon.

 MTV announces amateur MMA documentary series ‘Caged,’ debuts Jan. 9

The cable station MTV has announced plans for a new documentary series about amateur MMA fighters.

‘Caged’ will focus on the Louisiana MMA scene by spotlighting teenagers with a passion for MMA.

The show debuts on Jan. 9 on MTV starting at 10 p.m. ET.
