Reynolds Defeats Novaes, Esparza defeats Herrig at XFC 15

Florida promotion XFC hosted XFC 15 last night and the event was aired live on HDNet.  XFC 15 culminated in the main event fight between Jonatas Novaes and former Bellator fighter Eric Reynolds.  This fight looked like it might be over early as Novaes looked to use his world-class submissions skills to get a first-round victory, but things quickly changed.  Novaes attempted numerous submissions throughout this three-round fight, but could never lock one in for the victory.  Reynolds continually battled through the submission attempts, did damage when he could, and earned himself the unanimous decision victory.

  • Eric Reynolds def. Jonatas Novaes via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)
  • Carla Esparza def. Felice Herrig via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
  • Nick Newell def. Denis Hernandez via submission (heel hook) – Round 1, 1:11
  • Corey Hill def. Charlie Rader via submission (brabo choke) – Round 1, 3:58
  • Brandon Sayles def. Imani Lee via verbal submission (punches) – Round 1, 3:09
  • Ryan Thomas def. John Kolosci via submission (reverse triangle choke) – Round 1, 4:46

In a light heavyweight fight, former champion Rashad Evans will face Phil Davis with the winner moving on to face the winner of Jon Jones and Lyoto Machida, who square off at UFC 140.  Evans has won a few of these title eliminator fights over recent years, but has been forced out of his title fights due to injury.
