Efrain Escudero returns to UFC, fights Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141

Lightweight Efrain Escudero, winner of season eight of The Ultimate Fighter, is set to make his return to the promotion on Dec. 30 at UFC 141.  Escudero will replace the injured TJ Grant and face Jacob Volkmann at the end-of-year card in Las Vegas.  UFC president Dana White today announced that the two men have verbally agreed to the bout.

TUF 8 champ Escudero was cut following a five fight stint that saw him go 3-2 and miss weight for his final outing under the UFC banner.  He has since gone 5-1 in a variety of promotions.  Escudero was slated to fight Jeff Rexroad at next weekend’s Legacy Fighting Championship 9 event, which will be televised on HDNet.  With his return to the UFC just weeks later, his fight with Rexroad is likely to be scratched from that card.

Two more bouts set for UFC on Fox 2

The UFC today announced two additional fights set for the UFC’s second appearance on Fox.  The card will now include a bantamweight clash between Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Wineland and a featherweight battle between Cub Swanson and George Roop.

UFC on Fox 2 takes place Jan. 28 at the United Center in Chicago.  It features a light heavyweight No. 1 contender bout between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis.

Three bouts set for “Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” prelim card

Strikeforce today announced three fights for the preliminary portion of its Dec. 17 event.  The promotion made official previously reported match-ups of Caros Fedor vs. Justin Wilcox and Devin Cole vs. Gabriel Salinas-Jones.  In addition, the prelim card will now feature a pairing of Roger Bowling and Jerron Peoples.  Peoples seeks his first win under the Strikeforce banner, while Bowling sits at 2-2 with the promotion and looks to rebound from a July loss to Bobby Voelker.

“Strikeforce: Melendez vs. Masvidal” takes place at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego and the main card airs live on Showtime.
