UFC Releases Anthony Johnson

Following a third weight cutting debacle, Anthony Johnson has been released from the UFC.
Johnson was submitted by Vitor Belfort at UFC 142 in Rio de Janeiro.  After the loss UFC president Dana White terminated Johnson’s contract.

“This is his third time,” White said of Johnson’s failure to make weight for the third time in his octagon career. “Three strikes and you’re gone.”

Johnson weighed in at 197 pounds for his co-main event fight that was slated for the 185-pound division.  The fighter previously missed weight in welterweight contests with Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Rich Clementi.
