Munoz out due to injury, Sonnen now faces Bisping at UFC on Fox 2

Today, Dana White announced via his Twitter account that Mark Munoz is out of his Jan. 28 bout with Michael Bisping due to injury. Bisping will now face Chael Sonnen in Chicago at UFC on Fox 2.  The winner of this fight will still get a shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Demian Maia draws Chris Weidman to mend UFC on Fox triple bill

With the injury to Munoz forcing him off the card and Bisping into a bout with Sonnen, Demian Maia was left wondering if he would even get a replacement bout on such short notice.  Well Maia does not have to wonder any more.  The UFC immediately turned to Chris Weidman to fill the slot and Weidman jumped at the opportunity to face Maia at UFC on Fox 2.

UFC scraps planned March show in Montreal, hopes for return later in 2012

UFC officials announced today that a rumored event for March in Montreal has been scrapped.  Officials indicated that complications with scheduling the event resulted in its cancellation.  At this point, UFC officials did not indicate what they plan to do with the fights that were expected to be a part of the card.

Zuffa institutes pre-contract drug screening for performance enhancers

Zuffa officials announced today that all future fighters signing a contract to compete for the UFC and/or Strikeforce will be required to pass a pre-contract drug screen for performance-enhancing drugs.  Zuffa has been known for their compliance with state athletic commissions related to drug testing, and they have made it very clear that performance-enhancing drug use will not be tolerated.  Fighters currently under contract will not be required to take any additional drug tests.

Strikeforce’s “King Mo” tests positive for anabolic steroid, fighter denies use

Former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Muhammed Lawal tested positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid, after his fight on Jan. 7.  Lawal denies any use of the banned substance. He is facing a one year suspension and a $2500 fine.

Pride and Strikeforce vet Miltinho Vieira signs with UFC

Miltinho Vieira, the man widely credited for the invention of the anaconda choke, has signed a four-fight deal with the UFC.  Vieira, a veteran of the sport, has competed for both Pride and Strikeforce.  UFC officials did not announce when they expect to see him in action, but it speculated that fans will not have to wait long.

UFC on Fuel TV 1 adds Loeffler vs. Roberts, Izquierdo vs. Magalhaes

UFC officials recently announced two additions to UFC on Fuel TV 1, and both fights feature newcomers to the organization.  The first bout is between middleweights Buddy Roberts and Sean Loeffler and the second is between lightweights Yoislandy Izquierdo and Bernardo Magalhaes.  Both fights are expected to be a part of the preliminary portion of the event.
