Retired UFC vet ‘Joker’ Guymon embattled but not beaten, to relaunch career

Mike “Joker” Guymon is coming out of retirement, as he has signed a three-fight contract with Bamma USA. Guymon is expected to fight Frankie Saenz on March 16 at Badbeat 6.

Guymon is unfortunately best known for his mental instability due to the pressures faced in his personal and professional life that led to a near suicide attempt in 2009. After recovering with treatment, Guymon was given medication that affected his fighting, resulting in a 1-3 record with the UFC, which prompted his retirement nearly one year ago.

Now, equipped with a new lease on fighting and a new approach that has Guymon fighting in a lower weight class, he is set to resume his career.

UFC’s FX debuts with 1.3 million viewers, 148,000 on Fuel TV

The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first outing on Fox-owned cable channel FX was a relative success, as it drew an average of 1.3 million viewers.

The broadcast, which aired last Friday at 9 p.m. ET from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn., was a two-hour special headlined by a key lightweight match that saw Jim Miller score a first-round submission of Melvin Guillard.

Also, UFC on FX 1 pulled a 1.19 rating in the Men 18-49 demographic and a 1.20 in Men 18-34, which is a slip from the UFC’s 2011 “Fight Night” averages on former cable home Spike TV, which boasted an averaged 1.9 million viewers, with 1.80 ratings in both M18-49 and M18-34.
