Each day, The MMA Corner will provide a recap of results, event announcements, fight matchups, and injuries/cancellations from throughout the world of MMA.
As the days inch closer and closer to UFC on Fox 2, the UFC has announced that UFC on Fox 3 will take place on May 5 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.
While it has not officially been named the main event, it was announced that Jim Miller, fresh off of his victory at UFC on FX 1, will take on Nate Diaz, who has recently defeated Donald Cerrone at UFC 141.
On the same night, the last season’s The Ultimate Fighter bantamweight winner will return to the Octagon as he takes on Darren Uyenoyama at flyweight.
The Ultimate Fighter veteran Johnny Bedford has found out that his planned fight against Mitch Gagnon has been removed from this Saturday’s fight card. The Canadian Gagnon was unable to cross the boarder into the United States which forced the UFC to can the fight.
That bantamweight fight was set to air on Fuel TV and with it being off of the card, heavyweights Joey Beltran and Lavar Johnson will now fight on the Fuel TV portion of the evening rather than the Facebook portion as it was originally planned.
While Fuel TV has hosted the UFC’s preliminary card fights in the past, it is scheduled to host its first main card on Feb. 15. While the fight card has been growing as the days are passing, the main card is officially set as four fights have been etched in stone. The main event on the evening will be a welterweight fight between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez, while the fights preceding it will be middleweights Aaron Simpson taking on Ronny Markes, a heavyweight fight between Dave Herman and Stefan Struve and another heavyweight scrap between Philip De Fries and Stipe Miocic.
The undercard fights will air on Facebook and are as follows:
- John Albert vs. Ivan Menjivar
- Jonathan Brookins vs. Vagner Rocha
- Sean Loeffler vs. Buddy Roberts
- Anton Kuivanen vs. Justin Salas
- Yoislandy Izquierdo vs. Bernardo Magalhaes
- T.J. Dillashaw vs. Walel Watson
Fresh off of his victory at UFC 141, Diego Nunes is scheduled to take on Dennis Siver at UFC on Fuel TV 2. Siver has been competing at lightweight and after his most recent defeat at UFC 137 by the hands of Donald Cerrone, he has decided to move down a weight class and compete at featherweight. Nunes holds a 4-1 record with the UFC with the lone loss coming by decision against Kenny Florian.
UFC on Fuel TV 2 is set to take place in Stockholm, Sweden, on April 14.
