Title tilts targeted for UFC 146 and UFC 148; Mir-Velasquez, Griffin-Ortiz III on the horizon

UFC co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta revealed plans for several upcoming fights during a series of posts on Twitter last night.

According to Fertitta, Junior dos Santos will likely make his first defense of the UFC heavyweight crown on May 26, which will likely serve as UFC 146. The champion will put his title on the line against former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem. The event is expected to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Another championship bout is likely to go down on July 7 at UFC 148, which is also set to take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will get his second crack at dethroning current UFC bantamweight kingpin Dominick Cruz when the two meet for the third time. Faber successfully defended his WEC title in the pair’s first meeting, while Cruz retained his UFC crown in their second clash with a unanimous decision over Faber at UFC 132. The UFC 148 title tilt will come at the conclusion of The Ultimate Fighter 15, which will feature the two 135-pounders as coaches.

Fertitta also tweeted that heavyweights Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez are also set to clash, while Tito Ortiz will get his wish of a third meeting with Forrest Griffin. However, no date was revealed for either bout.

Fuel TV gives non-subscribers a chance to view UFC on Fuel TV 1

Don’t have Fuel TV? Don’t worry. You’ll still get to see next week’s UFC on Fuel TV 1 event. Well, most everyone will, anyhow.

Fuel TV is offering a free preview week for non-subscribers, starting Feb. 13 and running through Feb. 19. UFC on Fuel TV 1, which airs Feb. 15, falls within the preview window. The only catch is that not all cable providers will participate in the preview event. AT&T U-Verse, Charter, Comcast, Cox and Suddenlink are among the carriers who will offer the preview, and interested viewers can check fuel.tv/getfueltv to find out if their provider is participating.
