Yoshihiro Akiyama battles Thiago Alves at UFC 149

Former middleweight Yoshihiro Akiyama will make his second appearance at welterweight at UFC 149 as he takes on Brazilian Thiago Alves.

The Japanese fighter dropped his 170-pound debut to Jake Shields at UFC 144 in February, dropping his Octagon record to 1-4.

Alves, meanwhile, was dominating Martin Kampmann in their March 2 collision until Kampmann latched onto a guillotine in the final minute and forced Alves to tap.

UFC 149 takes place on July 21 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

George Roop meets Antonio Carvalho in Calgary

Featherweights George Roop and Antonio Carvalho are set for the UFC 149 undercard in July.

Roop has dropped two straight fights and may be facing the promotional axe with another loss.

The Canadian Carvalho may face the same fate as his opponent with a loss. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt fell to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142 in his Octagon debut.

Bobby Lashley vs. James Thompson headlines Super Fight League 3

Heavyweights Bobby Lashley and James Thompson will headline Indian promotion Super Fight League’s third event on May 6.

Also on the card will be light heavyweights Trevor Prangley vs. Baga Agaev, middleweights Doug Marshall vs. Zelg Galesic and 125-pounders Lena Ovchynnikova vs. Joanne Calderwood.

The event is slated for the IGI Stadium in New Delhi and streams on YouTube.

Broken Hand Postpones Eric Prindle vs. Cole Konrad Title Fight to Bellator 70

Bellator’s upcoming heavyweight title tile between champion Cole Konrad and challenger Eric Prindle has been postponed until Bellator 70 due to a broken hand suffered by Prindle in training.

The pair was expected to face off at Bellator 65 this Friday; however the fight will now headline Bellator 70 on May 25.

Fuel TV reveals event schedule for rest of 2012

According to Fuel TV Executive Vice President and General Manager, George Greenberg, the UFC will hold its fourth, fifth and sixth events of the year on the network July, September and November.

However, no specific dates or locations are in place for the events.

The Fox-owned cable network has aired multiple preliminary card fights over the course of the year, and is set to air its second full event on Saturday, April 14 from Stockholm, Sweden.

Nick Diaz and Braulio Estima set to meet in grappling match

World Champion Braulio Estima will take on former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz in a 180-pound BJJ superfight.

The superfight will take place at the World Jiu-Jitsu Expo on May 12 in Long Beach, Calif., according to WJJE officials.

Estima is one of the world’s most decorated grapplers. The Brazilian is in preparation for his MMA debut later this year.

Diaz, a black belt under Cesar Gracie, hasn’t competed in a BJJ match in two years. He has never been submitted in BJJ competition.

The inaugural World Jiu-Jitsu Expo is slated for the Long Beach Convention Center.

The Ultimate Fighter Brazil debuts on Fuel TV in June

The UFC’s first international installment of The Ultimate Fighter is expected to air for U.S. audiences on Fuel TV in June, according to George Greenberg.

TUF Brazil is currently streaming online and Greenberg revealed that the decision to delay airing the reality series was to avoid competition with The Ultimate Fighter: Live, which is currently being shown on FX.
