Bellator 68 fight card rounds out

Bellator Fighting Championship has finalized their Bellator 68 event by filling up the fight card.  The main event on the evening will be the season-six featherweight tournament final between Marlon Sandro and Daniel Straus.  This fight will be the second consecutive featherweight tournament final that Sandro has fought in, having previously lost to current featherweight champion Pat Curran at Bellator 48 last summer.  Straus is no stranger to featherweight tournament finals either, as he lost to Patricio Freire in the season-four featherweight tournament final at Bellator 45.  The winner of this fight is guaranteed a shot at the featherweight championship along with a $100,000 check.

The rest of the main card is sure to provide fireworks as Travis Marx takes on Marcos Galvao for a spot in the bantamweight tournament final.  Both fighters took home unanimous decision victories in their first fight in the tournament.  Also on the main card will be a 230-pound catchweight fight between Seth Petruzelli and Carmelo Marrero.  Petruzelli is most famous for knocking out Kimbo Slice in just 14 seconds, but most recently knocked out Ricco Rodriguez at Bellator 48.  Throughout Marrero’s career, he has fought four times in the UFC.  Rounding out the main card will be a rematch between Marius Zaromskis and Waachiim Spiritwolf.  They first met in 2010 and fought to a quick no-contest after an accidental eye poke.

MAIN CARD:

  • Featherweight Tournament Finals: Marlon Sandro vs. Daniel Straus
  • Bantamweight Tournament Semifinal: Marcos Galvao vs. Travis Marx
  • Catchweight (230 lbs.): Seth Petruzelli vs. Carmelo Marrero

Bellator 68 is set to take place in Atlantic City, N.J., on Friday, May 11.

Hatsu Hioki booked for UFC on FX 4

While it was speculated that Hatsu Hioki would get a title shot after a victory over George Roop in his UFC debut and a follow-up victory over Bart Palaszewski, the Japanese fighter will instead take on Ricardo Lamas.  The two have agreed to take on one another at UFC on FX 4 in June.

According to UFC President Dana White, Hioki wanted another fight before he was given a chance at Jose Aldo’s featherweight championship.

UFC on FX 4 is scheduled to take place in Atlantic City, N.J., on June 22.  The fight card will be headlined by a lightweight clash between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida.

Shlemenko will fight winner of Falcao-Spang for the title

With Bellator’s middleweight champion Hector Lombard leaving the promotion for the UFC, he leaves behind a vacant middleweight title.  Alexander Shlemenko was scheduled to take on Lombard for the gold after winning the season-five middleweight tournament, however he was left without an opponent after Lombard’s departure.  Fortunately for both Bellator and Shlemenko, the current season is hosting a middleweight tournament, of which the victor will face Shlemenko for the vacant title.

That means that the winner of the fight between Maiquel Falcao and Andreas Spang will square off against Shlemenko for the gold strap.  Both fighters were victorious at Bellator 66 last Friday night, and the two had to be separated from one another after the two fighters were staring one another down.  The fight between Falcao and Spang will take place at Bellator 70, the last fight card of season-six, on May 25 in New Orleans.

Fighters test clean at UFC on Fuel TV 2

According to the Swedish MMA Federation, the overseeing body for UFC on Fuel TV 2, every fighter was drug tested and every fighter tested clean for both performance-enhancing drugs and drugs of abuse.

Normally, commissions test both main-event fighters along with random winners from the evening, however they elected to test all 24 fighters.
