Bellator 68 weigh-in results

While all eight of the main card fighters for Bellator 68 made weight, one undercard fighter came in over weight. Featherweight Will Romero was supposed to weigh-in at 146 pounds for his fight against Matt Veal, but he tipped the scale at 148.8 pounds. As a result, Romero was awarded two additional hours to shed the 2.8 pounds

In the main event of the evening, Bellator Fighting Championship lightweight champion Michael Chandler will take on UFC and Pride veteran Akihiro Gono in a three-round non-title super fight. RFA  3 to hold Stevenson vs. Cochrane

The Resurrection Fighting Alliance has announced their main event for their upcoming June event.  The Ultimate Fighter season two winner Joe Stevenson will take on TUF: Live hopeful Dakota Cochrane.

To start off his UFC career, Stevenson had a strong 5-1 record and earned a title shot against then champion B.J. Penn.  After losing to Penn by a second-round choke, he went 3-6 with the promotion, including losing his last four fights.  Because of that, “Daddy” was released by the UFC and eventually signed with the RFA.

Dakota Cochrane was cast for season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter but failed to earn his spot inside the house of the reality show after he lost by split decision to James Vick.  Cochrane has fought twice with RFA and lost both times, losing by unanimous decision to Ramico Blackmon at RFA 1 and by rear-naked choke against Cliff Wright at RFA 2.

RFA 3 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 30 and includes nine scheduled professional fights including an amateur card.

Nick Diaz approved for second’s license in New Jersey

While we may not see Nick Diaz inside the cage as a fighter anytime soon, you will be able to see him this Saturday night in the corner of his brother, Nate Diaz.  It was announced today that even though the welterweight has a temporary suspension in the state of Nevada,  he was able to obtain a second’s, or cornerman’s, license through the state of New Jersey.

The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board legal counsel Nick Lembo said that had the suspension in Nevada been finalized, that the board would have looked at the matter differently.

Expect to see Nick Diaz in the corner of Nate Diaz this Saturday night as he fights Jim Miller in the main event at UFC on Fox 3.

B.J. Penn to return to UFC’s welterweight division

The last time we saw B.J. Penn, he was bruised and battered after a three-round fight against Nick Diaz.  After that fight, the former welterweight and lightweight champion flirted with the idea of retirement.  Today, UFC president Dana White said that the Hawaiian wants to return to the UFC and fight at 170 pounds.

White also confirmed that he tried to put Penn across from Gilbert Melendez for the Strikeforce lightweight title on the upcoming May 19 card, but that Penn ultimately shot the offer down.  When White was asked when the former champion was expected to return to action, he replied by saying that he will come back when he is ready and that he doesn’t want to push him, or anyone, back into action if they do not feel as though they are ready to return to action.

UFC looking at a major stadium event in 2013

In 2011, the UFC set the North American attendance record when UFC 129 took place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Canada.  Today it was revealed that the promotion is looking ahead to next year where they would like to hold another stadium show.  Early speculation by UFC president Dana White says that the event could take place at Dallas’ Texas Stadium or again at the Rogers Centre.

While nothing is official, White realizes that a major stadium show would require a major main event.

Two UFC on Fox 3 fights to stream on Facebook

Initially, only six of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 3 undercards were expected to be shown on Fuel TV while the other two were only expected to be seen by those in attendance.  It was revealed today that the UFC would indeed broadcast the two fights on their Facebook page.

Fans will now be able to enjoy all 12 fights as bantamweights Roland Delorme and Nick Denis along with middleweights Karlos Vemola will be broadcasted on the social networking site.
