Claude Patrick vs. James Head Made Official for UFC 149

The UFC’s Canadian office broke the news about an addition to UFC 149. Claude Patrick will face off against James Head.

Patrick saw his impressive winning streak snapped in his last bout against Brian Ebersole and Head is coming off an impressive showing against Papy Abedi.

UFC 149 is scheduled for July 21 and will be the UFC’s first venture into Calgary.

Paul Taylor out; Rafael dos Anjos in vs. Anthony Njokauni on UFC on Fuel 4 card

Paul Taylor has experienced another setback as an injury has forced him off the UFC on Fuel 4 card. Replacing Taylor will be Rafael dos Anjos.

Dos Anjos will square off against Anthony Njokauni where both men are coming off victories in their last bouts.

UFC on Fuel 4 takes place on July 11.

Dana White: “Yes. We’re going to do our own testing.”

As part of the fallout from Alistair Overeem’s suspension and upheaval surrounding UFC 146, Dana White spoke to the LA Times about the failed drug tests that have occurred recently. When asked if the UFC plans to increase its’ testing White answered emphatically.

“Yes. We’re going to do our own testing, order these guys into [a lab]; we’re sorting it out now. You have to do this to save the sport. You can’t have these guys fighting on this stuff.”

Mike Swick Returns; Three Other Bouts Announced

The UFC on Fox 4 event just received four new bouts including the announcement of Mike Swick’s return to the Octagon. Swick, who last competed in 2010, will face off against DaMarques Johnson.

Also announced was former featherweight contender Josh Grispi taking on Pablo Garza. Another set of featherweight bouts featuring Nam Phan vs. Cole Miller and Manny Gamburyan vs. Michihiro Omigawa were announced as well.

Bellator Has Strong Showing

It seems things are finally looking up for Bellator as the promotion posted its’ strongest showing last Friday for viewers.

Bellator 69 drew a season-high 209,000 viewers. It was headlined by a middleweight tournament final between Maiquel Falcao and Andreas Spang.

The victorious Falcao will now face Alexander Shlemenko for the vacant Bellator 185-pound title.
