At the UFC 146 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White announced that middleweight Vitor Belfort is out of his UFC 147 headlining bout with fellow Ultimate Fighter Brazil coach Wanderlei Silva because of a broken hand.
The injury, suffered during training, required surgery. No timetable for his return is known at this time.
Silva, meanwhile, is expected to stay on the June 23 card. An opponent is expected to be announced shortly.
Eccentric middleweight and former Ultimate Fighter coach Jason Miller has been released from the UFC after suffering his second straight loss with the promotion.
Miller lost a unanimous decision to C.B. Dollaway at the May 26 event. He also dropped his UFC debut to Michael Bisping.
UFC President Dana White announced the news at the UFC 146 post-fight press conference.
Miller then told The MMA Hour that he would be retiring from the sport.
Lightweights Rafaello Oliveira and Yoislandy Izquierdo are set to do battle on July 7 at UFC 148 in Las Vegas.
Izquierdo’s management revealed the bout, but it is not yet official.
The 12-fight card is slated for pay-per-view, FX and Facebook. It is expected that Oliveira vs. Izquierdo will be on the Facebook stream.
The UFC will return to the UK on Sept. 29 at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham, England.
At the UFC 146 post-fight press conference UFC President Dana White stated that Dan Hardy, Paul Sass and Ultimate Fighter Live combatant Andy Ogle were all likely for the card.
Light heavyweights Jurgen Kruth and Cyrille Diabate are also expected to meet on the card.
The event is expected to be broadcast on either FX or Fuel TV.
