“Shogun” Rua Rejected Teixeira fight But Denies Saying He’d Rather Be Cut

Earlier reports from Dana White suggested former light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua not only turned down a fight with Glover Teixeira but stated he’d rather be cut than fight the Brazilian.

Rua denied telling UFC president Dana White he would rather be cut from the UFC than take the fight.

“That was a miscommunication,” Rua said

Bellator Finds a No. 1 Seed for its Season Seven Lightweight Tournament

Bellator added a blue-chip level prospect by signing Alexander “Tiger” Sarnavskiy to a contract. Sarnavskiy is only 23 years old but sports an impressive 20-0 record. He also trains with Bellator standout, Alexander “The Storm” Shlemenko.

Sarnavskiy has finished nine of his past 10 opponents and will be the No. 1 seed for Bellator’s Season Seven Lightweight Tournament.

Roland Delorme vs. Francisco Rivera slated for UFC 149

Roland Delorme might not be welcoming Bibiano Fernandes to the Octagon but he will remain on the UFC 149 card. Delorme will battle Francisco Rivera. Delorme is riding a two-fight win streak while Rivera made a triumphant return to the UFC with a victory over Alex Soto at the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event.

UFC 149 takes place July 21 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The card is headlined by an interim bantamweight title bout between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao.

Corey Hill Signs a Long Term Deal with XFC

Corey “The Real Deal” Hill has signed a long term deal with XFC. Hill had a successful debut with XFC by defeating Charlie Rader via brabo choke in December of last year.

Hill is best known for his incredible height for 155 pounds, stint on The Ultimate Fighter 5,  and for one of the most gruesome leg injuries in MMA history.

Che Mills vs. Duane Ludwig Made Official for UFC on FUEL TV 5

Che Mills announced today that he will meet Duane Ludwig on the UFC on FUEL TV 5 card. Mills is coming off a one-sided beatdown at the hands of Rory MacDonald. Meanwhile Ludwig is on a 0-2 skid that last saw the fighter lose to Dan Hardy.

UFC on FUEL TV 5 will take place Sept. 29 in the Capital FM Arena. It will be the UFC’s first visit to Nottingham, England.

Bellator to Stream Next Event for Free

Bellator announced today that they will stream their next event, Bellator 71 for free on Gametrailers.com. The streaming will also help promote Bellator’s first video game, “MMA Onslaught.”

Bellator 71 takes place at the Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort in Chester, West Virginia, Bellator 71 features the quarterfinals of the Bellator Summer Series Light Heavyweight Tournament, plus renowned heavyweight striker Brett Rogers makes his Bellator debut against veteran Kevin Asplund.

Jon Jones’ DWI Sentencing Delayed

Sentencing for Jon Jones on a much-publicized charge of driving while intoxicated has been pushed back two weeks.  Jones pleaded guilty to DWI on May 29. The UFC champion is unlikely to endure jail time.

He is expected to be sentenced to a one-year conditional discharge and fined $1,500 as part of a plea deal with the Broome County (N.Y.) District Attorney’s Office.
