Ultimate Fighter 16 deviates from past open tryouts

The UFC has mixed things up for its upcoming 16th season of the reality show. Rather than hold an open casting call, the promotion called numerous managers and brought in a hand-picked group of welterweights to Las Vegas.

Fighters were flown in on Sunday, and interviews began Monday.

Those called were veterans of previous open tryouts, though some who hadn’t previously auditioned were also accepted.

The long-running reality show is set to switch back to a pre-taped format after a last season’s live format.
