Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza vs. Derek Brunson Planned for August Strikeforce Card

Multiple sources have revealed that middleweights Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Derek Brunson will meet on Aug. 18. The bout was originally scheduled to happen in March but the Ohio Athletic Commission wouldn’t let Brunson compete with his contacts in.

Souza fought on the March card anyways and won via submission over Bristol Marunde. Brunson recently tasted defeat for the first time when stepping in on short notice to take on Kendall Grove in a ShoFIGHT bout.

Another Featherweight Bout Changed at UFC 149

The injury bug has struck again as George Roop has been forced to back out of his scheduled fight with Antonio Carvalho. Stepping in Roop’s place will be former Legacy Fighting Championship title holder, Daniel Pineda.

Pineda won his first two UFC appearances but suffered a defeat from Mike Thomas Brown in Brown’s final MMA bout. Carvalho lost in his UFC debut at UFC 142 but is noted for holding a victory over Hatsu Hioki.

Pat Schilling Done in the UFC

After a 0-2 start in the UFC, featherweight fighter Pat Schilling announced he has been cut by the promotion. Schilling made the announcement despite his fighter profile still appearing on the UFC.com website.

Schilling is best known for working at a Best Buy when the UFC called him up to take a short notice fight against Daniel Pineda. The Minnesota-based fighter would get another chance in the promotion but lost a unanimous decision to Max Holloway.

UFC 147 Prelim Ratings

The ratings for the UFC 147 Prelims are in as multiple industry sources have announced the show averaged 969,000 viewers. That’s down from UFC 146’s prelim ratings that averaged 1.3 million.

The two-hour special featured a number of TUF: Brazil contestants picking up victories. In terms of FX viewers, the UFC 147 prelims rank fifth, just ahead of UFC 142 prelims.

Ultimate Victory Challenge Announces Main Events for Aug. 4 Event

The Ohio-based promotion Ultimate Victory Challenge announced today a pair of fights that are set to headline its 20th event. Luke Zachrich will take on Nick “Ye Daddy” Kraus in the card’s main event which will crown the promotion’s middleweight champion. The UVC will also crown the first ever UVC Featherweight Champion when Lance “The Party” Palmer squares off against Jon “The Beast” Washington.

Zachrich is making his first MMA appearance in two years while Kraus is riding a five-fight win streak.  Palmer is a four time All-American and former Ohio State wrestler. Washington is a former amateur champion for the promotion and has finished all five of his pro fights.

UVC 20: Clash at the Colliseum takes place on Aug. 4.
