Fernandes, Aoki sign with ONE FC

With Japanese promotion DREAM all but folding, upstart ONE FC has become the new home for two of its champions.

DREAM’s former featherweight and current bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes and lightweight champion Shinya Aoki have joined the young Asian organization.

Fernandes is set to make his promotional debut at “Pride of Nations” on Aug. 31 in Manila, Phillipines. Aoki’s debut does not have a date or location at this time.

Recent reports had claimed that Fernandes had signed with the UFC and would compete at UFC 149, but the Brazilian was unable to reach a deal with the US-based promotion.

Etim injured, off UFC on Fox 4

British lightweight Terry Etim has suffered an injury and is out of a planned Aug. 4 bout with Joe Lauzon at UFC on Fox 4.

The news was revealed late Tuesday on the promotion’s weekly update show, UFC Tonight which airs on Fuel TV.

Lauzon is expected to stay on the night’s preliminary card, with a new opponent to be named shorty.

UFC on Fox 4 takes place from the Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be headlined by light heavyweights Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera.

Penner vs. DeBlass pulled from UFC on Fuel TV 4

Light heavyweights Nick Penner and Tom DeBlass will no longer lock horns at UFC on Fuel TV 4 after an injury to Penner forced him out of the bout.

Rather than search for a last-minute replacement for the July 11 bout, the promotion has opted to pull the fight altogether. UFC Tonight revealed the news.

UFC on Fuel TV 4 takes place from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif. Headlining the card will be middleweights Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman. The six-fight main card will air on Fuel TV, while the shortened five-fight preliminary card is expected to stream on Facebook.

Jones, Silva nominated for ESPYs

UFC champions Jon Jones and Anderson Silva have been nominated for the 2012 ESPY awards in the category of “Fighter of the Year.”

The light heavyweight and middleweight kingpins are joined by boxers Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Andre Ward in competition for the award.

The award show will air July 11 on ESPN. Voting is open until July 9.

“It’s an honor to not only be nominated for the ESPY for Best Fighter, but to also be included in a category with some of the greatest fighters in MMA and boxing history,” said the 205-pound champion Jones via press release.
