Chad Mendes charged with battery

Featherweight Chad Mendes was charged with battery stemming from an incident at a bar in Hanford, Cali. on July 29. Mendes will be arraigned on Sept. 19.

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday that it will seek the charges brought against Mendes. The charges also contain a possible $2,000 fine and up to six months in the county jail.

Kings County Sheriff’s deputies said Mendes “sucker punched a man in the face” at a local Hanford bar during the July 29 incident according to the “Hanford Sentinel”

According to the report, witnesses of the incident told the authorities that Mendes quickly left the bar through “the back door, and he ran from law enforcement and managed to escape capture.” Witnesses did recognize Mendes from his UFC popularity.

Mendes has not been booked for his next fight after he knocked out Cody McKenzie at UFC 148.

Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado shifted to UFC 153

Now due to the injury to Alan Belcher, the rematch between Phil Davis and Wagner Prado has been moved to the UFC 153 in Brazil.

Davis and Prado recently fought at UFC on Fox 4 and the fight was ruled a no contest after an accidental eye poke to Prado occurred.

The fight was originally headed to the UFC on FX 5 card, but now instead it will be a part of the main card at UFC 153.

UFC 153 takes place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Oct. 13.

Bellator champ, Eduardo Dantas knocked out by Tyson Nam in Brazil

In a stunning turn of events, Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas was knocked out in his home country of Brazil at Shooto 33.

Dantas was knocked out by Tyson Nam not too long into the first round.

Dantas was on a seven-fight win streak and took the risky regional promotion fight. Dantas recently beat Zack Makovsky for the Bellator title this past April when he won by second round submission.
