Maximum Fighting Championship to add bantamweight division in 2013

In a press release obtained by The MMA Corner, Maximum Fighting Championship will be adding bantamweights to their roster of their fighters starting in 2013.

According to the press release, MFC will start off with an inaugural four-man tournament on a MFC card in February. The winner of those fights will meet for the first bantamweight title later in 2013.

“The time is right to do it,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “We waited a long time to re-ignite the heavyweight division because at the time we dropped the division the talent pool, especially the overall athleticism, was very thin. Now the batch of heavyweights available is much better.”

Stephen Thompson vs. Besam Yousef added to UFC 154

UFC 154 added yet another fight to fill out a little bit more before the card goes down in Montreal in November.

Stephen Thompson will get his first fight back since his loss to Matt Brown at UFC 145 in Atlanta back in April. The loss to Brown was the first loss of Thompson’s MMA career. The fight came after an impressive showing back in February at UFC 143 when Thompson scored an impressive knockout victory over Dan Stittgen in his UFC debut.

Besam Yousef will also get a chance to rebound from his first professional loss in his MMA career. Yousef lost in his home country of Sweden at UFC on Fuel: Gustafsson vs. Silva. Yousef lost to Simeon Thoresen by rear-naked choke in the second round.

UFC 154 takes place at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Nov. 17.
