Each day, The MMA Corner will provide a recap of results, event announcements, fight matchups, and injuries/cancellations from throughout the world of MMA.
UFC 153’s main event has yet another change to undergo. Dana White told fans through his Twitter account that Jose Aldo has been forced off the card due to a foot injury. Aldo was scheduled to face Erik Koch but Koch was forced out of the contest with an injury of his own.
Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar stepped in for the injured Koch but will now wait to face new opponent in his featherweight debut.
Just mere hours before Dana White announced that Jose Aldo was out of action, the UFC President announced that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson was injured and forced out of his bout against Glover Teixeira.
“Rampage” had been vocal about leaving the UFC after his fight with Teixeira and it’s unclear if the UFC will reschedule him or grant Jackson his release. No new opponent has been named for Teixeira.
Vladimir Matyushenko has been forced to pull out of his scheduled fight against Matt Hamill at UFC 152 due to injury. Hamill’s original opponent for UFC 152, Roger Hollet has been named as Matyushenko’s replacement. Hollet was removed from the bout weeks ago but not due to an injury.
UFC 152 marks the return of Hamill from his retirement from MMA in 2011.
A clash between former UFC fighters Anthony Johnson and Jake Rosholt is set to headline Xtreme Fight 9 in Oklahoma City. Johnson’s history of missing weight is well documented by “Rumble” recently made a successful move to 205 pounds by dropping Esteves Jones at Titan Fighting Championship 24 in August.
Rosholt, a three-time NCAA Division-I wrestling champion, saw a five-fight winning streak come to a halt as he was submitted via kneebar in his last outing.
XFN 9 will also feature two title fights on Sept. 21 and is expected to take place in Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Catoosa, Okla.
