Bristol Marunde (born April 20, 1982) is an American mixed martial artist. He was formerly signed with Strikeforce and is the current Superior Cage Combat (SCC) middleweight champion.
Bristol was selected to be one of the 32 competitors on The Ultimate Fighter, also known as Ultimate Fighter Fridays. The field of 32 are some of the most talented unsigned mixed martial artists in the world.
The roster includes 29 welterweights from the United States, two from Canada and one from Brazil. Bristol will be making his 170-pound debut on the show for a chance to train under Roy Nelson or Shane Carwin.
The season runs for 13 consecutive weeks, airing Friday nights on FX at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The show’s winner will be crowned at the live finale on Saturday, Dec. 15, live on FX.
Bristol holds notable victories over Jay Silva, Victor Moreno, Chuck Grigsby, Shane Primm and Rich Attonito. He currently resides in Las Vegas where he trains at Throwdown Training Center. His training coaches include Peter Pinto and jiu-jitsu coach Robert Drysdale.
A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Bristol went to high school in Sequim, Wash. He comes from a family of athletes. His older brother, Jesse, was a professional strongman who became the second strongest man in the world in Chengdu, China, at the World Strongman Competition. Jesse died of a heart attack in July 2007, and Bristol now proudly carries the family torch. Bristol’s younger brother, Brady, has played professional basketball and trained in Europe.
Bristol started wrestling at the age of 10, and later as a young man sought the intense athletic competition only found in the cage. Bristol thrives on the fact that the only rules are in place for safety, and only one fighter walks out of the cage a victor. MMA requires a mix of striking, kicking, wrestling and submissions, and the world has yet to see how well-rounded Bristol has become.
Bristol’s earlier strongman workouts with his brother helped him to achieve his strength, his speed, his stamina and steel jaw, making him a dangerous opponent in the cage. At 6-foot-1 and competing at 170, 185 and even 205 pounds, he is a fighter who has something to prove.
Along with his girlfriend Aubrey, he has one son, Kale. Bristol is also an entrepreneur who owns Reign Promotions, recently named the Best Amateur MMA Fight Promotion in Washington state.
