TUF: Smashes coaches, Sotiropoulos and Pearson to main event UFC on FX 6, Lombard-Palhares is co-main event

Opposing coaches, George Sotiropoulos and Ross Pearson will headline the UFC on FX 6 card later this year.

This will be Pearson’s return to lightweight after a disastrous drop to featherweight. Pearson lost to Cub Swanson by TKO in the second round this past June in his debut fight at featherweight.

Sotiropoulos is currently riding a two-fight losing streak and has been out of action since UFC 132 in July of 2011.

In the co-main event, middleweights Hector Lombard and Rousimar Palhares will square off. Both fighters are coming off of losses. Lombard last fought in Australia two fights ago in September of 2011 and was able to capture the AFC middleweight title.

UFC on FX 6 takes place on Dec. 15 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

Frank Mir injures knee, pulls out of Strikeforce fight with Daniel Cormier

Now it seems the injury bug has expanded to Strikeforce now that Frank Mir has pulled out of his fight with Daniel Cormier due to a knee injury.

The fight was to be the last heavyweight fight for Strikeforce and another legitimate test of Cormier’s skill. Cormier is coming off of a hugely impressive victory over Josh Barnett en rout to winning the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Mir was coming off of a loss to current UFC heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos in a title fight that saw dos Santos knock out Mir.

The fight was to take place in Oklahoma City at the Chesapeake Energy Arena. No word yet on Mir’s replacement or if Cormier will still fight on the card.
