Bellator 80 adds featherweight tournament semifinals

Friday’s Bellator 76 event determined the four fighters who would be competing in the season seven featherweight tournament semifinals and now the matchups are in place.

The former WEC and IFL fighter moved to the semifinals with a first-round armbar. In the other pairing, US Marine Mike Richman will take on Russian Shahbulat Shamhalaev. Both fighters scored first-round stoppages due to strikes.

Zoila Gurgel to face Casey Noland in Bellator return

It has been 18 months since Bellator’s 115-pound women’s champion Zoila Gurgel stepped into the cage after a major knee injury. Now back to full health, Gurgel will meet Casey Noland at Bellator 78 on Oct. 26 in Dayton, Ohio.

Gurgel carries with her a six-fight winning streak that includes wins over Jessica Aguilar, Jessica Penne and Megumi Fujii. After her last bout with Karina Hallinan in March of 2011, Gurgel was forced to undergo surgery and extensive rehab on her knee.

The event will take place from Dayton’s Nutter Center. It features the semifinal round of the season seven welterweight tournament.
