Frankie Edgar vs. Jose Aldo Set for UFC 156

Franke Edgar and Jose Aldo were originally set to square off at UFC 153 but an injury to Aldo forced the fight to be scrapped. Now the two men will face one another at UFC 156.

It will be Aldo’s first fight since UFC 142 and will also be Edgar’s first time competing at 145 pounds. UFC 156 is scheduled to be the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend card.

Stephan Bonnar Retires from MMA Competition

Stephan Bonnar has stepped into the Octagon for the last time. UFC President Dana White confirmed today that Bonnar will be stepping away from the sport of MMA.

Bonnar had been riding a three-fight winning streak but was knocked out by UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 153.

Bellator 78 Ratings Improve Slightly

Bellator 78 drew 154,000 viewers last Friday. That number represents a slight improvement over Bellator 77’s 149,000 viewers.

Bellator 78 featured the semifinals of the season 7 tournament with both Lyman Good and Andrey Koreshkov picking up TKO victories.

Report: Junior dos Santos Close to Signing Deal with Nike

Ariel Helwani is reporting that a number of sources have indicated UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is close to signing a deal with Nike. The reports first came out after Tuesday’s edition of UFC Tonight but a deal isn’t completely finalized.

A strong indication of a deal being close was dos Santos sporting a Nike shirt while appearing on the show.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney Will Waive Matching Period For Eddie Alvarez

Eddie Alvarez is a hot commodity in the MMA world. The former Bellator lightweight champion has been one of the best 155-pounders in recent years and has the potential to sign with any promotion.

Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney let it be known that if Alvarez refuses the initial offer, he will not prevent Alvarez from looking at other offers by waiving the standard 90-day matching period.

The UFC is expected to make a bid on the Bellator star.
