With Melendez out, Healy battles Masvidal on Jan. 12

Strikeforce lightweight No. 1 contender Pat Healy will remain on the promotion’s final fight card, despite champion Gilbert Melendez withdrawing due to a shoulder injury.

Healy will now take on former title challenger Jorge Masvidal on the night’s main card. Both fighters were slated to compete on the Sept. 29 event that was cancelled due to the same injury to Melendez.

The event takes place from the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City and will be headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Nate Marquardt and challenger Tarec Saffiedine. The main card will air live on Showtime, while the preliminary card will air on Showtime Extreme.

UFC on Fox 6 adds two bouts

The UFC’s Jan. 26 visit to Chicago has added two preliminary card fights.

German welterweight Pascal Krauss will take on Chicago-native Mike Stumpf while Swedish middleweight Magnus Cedenblad battles Brazilian Rafael Natal.

UFC on Fox 6 takes place from the United Center and is headlined by a flyweight title fight between champion Demetrious Johnson and challenger John Dodson.

UFC on Fuel TV 7 heads to London

The UFC’s seventh installment on the cable network Fuel TV will take place from Wembley Arena in London, England on Feb. 16.

No bouts have been announced at this time. The promotion last visited the UK in September for UFC on Fuel TV 5, which took place in Nottingham.

Bellator inks Bruno Carvalho

Brazilian lightweight Bruno Carvalho has signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator Fighting Championships.

The knockout artist is expected to begin competing for the promotion in 2013.

Rasul Mirzaev guilty of manslaughter

Former Bellator recruit Rasul Mirzaev has been convicted of manslaughter stemming from the death of a student in August of 2011.

The featherweight Dagestan native has been incarcerated since an altercation outside of a bar, in which he turned himself in. He will now spend two years behind bars for the incident.

Cage Warriors 50 headlined by McVeigh-Hempleman

The Dec. 8 Cage Warriors 50 event in Glasgow, Scotland has a headliner.

Scottish fighter Paul McVeigh will take on American Brandon Hempleman in a 130-pound catchweight affair.

The event takes place live from Kelvin Hall and the main card streams live on MMA Junkie.
