UFC 158 officially gets St-Pierre vs. Diaz

Georges St-Pierre asked the UFC brass for Nick Diaz after his UFC 154 win over Carlos Condit, and he will get it when the UFC returns to Montreal for UFC 158. Diaz’s spot in this bout with St-Pierre came with criticism, given Diaz’s UFC 143 loss to Condit and subsequent disciplinary suspension. However, the trash-talk and clear beef gave St-Pierre enough of the motivation necessary to ask the UFC to give him Diaz in lieu of consensus contender Johny Hendricks.

With Diaz facing St-Pierre for St-Pierre’s welterweight title and Condit coming off the loss to St-Pierre to fight St-Pierre’s TriStar cohort Rory MacDonald, Hendricks will face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158.

MFC 36 gets Mutapcic vs. Alvey title tilt

Mark Pavelich does it again. The MFC 36 card, live from Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton on Feb. 15, now hosts two title bouts, as reigning MFC middleweight champion Elvis Mutapcic faces TUF 16 cast member Sam Alvey. Alvey looks to build off of a 4-1 run in local competition, while Mutapcic looks to make the best of his first title defense after beating Joseph Henle in October for the belt.

Alessio Sakara out of UFC 158 bout with Patrick Cote

After the controversy surrounding their UFC 154 bout, Alessio Sakara and Patrick Cote hoped to return to Montreal to settle the score at UFC 158. However, Sakara will remain sidelined due to doctor’s orders, thus prolonging the bout. UFC officials have yet to announce a replacement, and speculation points to the fight possibly getting scratched until a later date.

Koch-Lamas planned as UFC on FOx 6 main-card opener

Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas will display their talents to the rest of the world at UFC on Fox 6 in Chicago, if the UFC green-lights the bout for the main card. Lamas, a Chicago native, looks to build off of the upset win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FX 4, while Koch returns to action after a 16-month layoff. After twice suffering injuries that forced him from planned title bouts with Jose Aldo, Koch hopes a win will reaffirm his status as one of the next in line for a shot at the featherweight belt.
