Alistair Overeem Officially Granted Fighter’s License by NSAC

Alistair Overeem’s path to his UFC 156 clash with Antonio Silva cleared another roadblock as Overeem was granted a fighter’s license by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Overeem met with a five-person panel on Tuesday and the panel voted unanimously to reinstate Overeem.

NSAC director Keith Kizer said Overeem had submitted five self-administered tests and all came back clean. The ruling effectively ends Overeem’s nine month suspension by the NSAC.

Yushin Okami vs. Hector Lombard Added to UFC on Fuel 8

A pair of middleweight title contenders will clash when Yushin Okami faces Hector Lombard at the UFC on Fuel 8 event. Lombard, who lost in his UFC debut against Tim Boetsch at UFC 149, defeated grappling sensation Rousimar Palhares while Okami is coming off a dominant victory over Alan Belcher at UFC 155.

The UFC on Fuel 8 event is scheduled to air on March 2 in the US from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event is headlined by a light heavyweight fight between Wanderlei Silva and Brian Stann.

Buddy Roberts out of UFC on Fox 6 Bout Due to Illness, Injury

An injury and a case of the flu will keep Buddy Roberts off the UFC on Fox 6 card. Roberts was scheduled to meet Michael Kuiper in a preliminary bout but now the UFC will search for a replacement.

Roberts made his UFC debut by defeating Caio Magalhaes at the UFC on FX 3 event. He took a short notice fight against Yushin Okami and was defeated via second round TKO in his last Octagon appearance.

UFC 158 Adds Welterweight Contest Between Rick Story and Sean Pierson

Rick Story will meet former Canadian police officer Sean Pierson at UFC 158. Pierson won both of his UFC bouts in 2012 while Story is just 1-3 in his last four Octagon appearances.

UFC 158 is slated to take place on March 16 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and will feature Georges St-Pierre putting his welterweight title on the line against MMA bad boy, Nick Diaz.
