UFC on Fox 7 targeted for Henderson-Melendez title fight

UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson had a successful title defense against Nate Diaz when the UFC came to Seattle in December for UFC on Fox 5. Now, Henderson aims to come off of that impressive unanimous-decision win to face Diaz’s teammate  and former Strikeforce lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez at UFC on Fox 7 in San Jose.

Melendez’s immediate title shot will come on the heels of a close split-decision win over rival Josh Thomson in May. Two attempts at a Strikeforce lightweight title fight with Pat Healy fell through for Melendez, and should the bout transpire in April, Melendez will come off of an 11-month layoff for the fight.

Cage Warriors 52 gets Grimaud-Pendred title tilt

French welterweight sensation and reigning Cage Warriors welterweight champion Gael Grimaud puts his belt up for grabs at Cage Warriors 52, live on Saturday, March 9 from the HMV Center in London. After winning the vacant belt by second-round TKO against Arni Isaksson, Grimaud made a successful first defense of his belt against Jesse Taylor, thus moving himself up to an 8-0 record in his last eight bouts.

This second defense of Grimaud’s belt will come against Isaksson’s teammate at SBG Ireland, Cathai Pendred. Pendred earned his shot via two impressive decision wins over David Bielkheden and Bruno Carvalho.

Janousek replaces Roberts, faces Kuiper at UFC on Fox 6

Things just turned interesting for Michael Kuiper. The middleweight prospect, originally scheduled to fight Buddy Roberts at UFC on Fox 6 next weekend in Chicago, now welcomes Josh Janousek to the Octagon at the event. An 8-1 prospect who won himself a number of contests as a heavyweight, Janousek moonlighted as a coach for the likes of Junior Dos Santos and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira in the past, but now gets to shine on his own in this middleweight contest.
