All-women’s promotion Invicta Fighting Championships was looking to take its show on the road for the promotion’s fifth event, but that will no longer be the case.

The MMA Corner has learned from sources close to the promotion that Invicta FC 5 will be held in Kansas City, Mo., though it will not be held at the promotion’s traditional venue of Memorial Hall.  The promotion has not revealed the venue for the event.

Sources also confirmed that Invicta is targeting April 5 as the date of the show, though the date has not been finalized as of this time.

Earlier this month, Invicta President Shannon Knapp revealed plans for the promotion to venture outside of its home base of Kansas City for the first time.  The promotion held its first four events at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, but Knapp outlined plans to travel to UCI Bren Events Center in Irvine, Calif., for the fifth event.  However, the promotion was originally looking at April 13 as the date of the event, but had to change its plans when the UFC announced an event for the same date.

As announced during its fourth event, the April card will feature two title fights.

Recently-crowned atomweight champion Jessica Penne will make the first defense of her belt against “The Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson.  Penne earned the promotion’s first title at Invicta FC 3 by submitting Naho Sugiyama. Meanwhile, Waterson claimed a narrow, split decision win over Lacey Schuckman at the same event.

Also, the promotion will crown its inaugural flyweight champion as Barb Honchak battles Brazilian Vanessa Porto. Honchak has picked up two wins under the Invicta banner and is currently riding a six-fight winning streak. Porto fell in her Invicta debut to Sarah D’Alelio, but scored a dominant win over MMA pioneer Tara LaRosa in her 125-pound debut.

Broadcast plans for the event have yet to be announced, but Knapp was less than pleased with the outcome of the promotion’s attempt at a pay-per-view stream on Ustream at its most recent event. However, she has not ruled out using that avenue once more.
