On Friday, Feb. 1, GLORY kicked off its Road to Glory USA kickboxing series with an eight-man light heavyweight tournament in Tulsa, Okla. at the at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

The promotion will be holding tournaments in each of its weight classes, with each winner earning a $20,000 prize and a one-year contract with the promotion.

If the first iteration of the series is any indication, things will go anything but as planned.

Stepping in on just 48 hours notice, UFC veteran Dustin Jacoby shocked the entire field by running the table and claiming the tournament. The usual middleweight drove from his home near Chicago to Tulsa and claimed the 209-pound (95 kg) tournament with three straight stoppage wins.

Jacoby replaced Manuel Quezada, who withdrew at the last minute for unknown reasons.

In the opening round, Jacoby faced tournament favorite and reigning ISKA world champion Randy “Boom Boom” Blake. The Oklahoma native battered Jacoby for the first two rounds of their quarterfinal clash. However, the 24-year-old Jacoby showed his resiliency, dropping Blake with a flurry and forcing the referee to halt the contest in the third.

Jacoby again impressed in the semifinal round, scoring a first-round knockout of Roy Boughton after first dropping Boughton with a knee and then putting Boughton down again with a hook to the body.

Beaming with confidence entering the finals, Jacoby would need less than a round to stop previously undefeated Brian Collette, again by knockout. Jacoby used his jab effectively and attacked Collette’s body. Late in the round, he unleashed a flurry that put Collette down and unable to recover.
