Anthony Pettis Drops to Featherweight to Challenge for Title

Following UFC 156, Anthony Pettis asked Dana White for the chance to challenge Jose Aldo for the UFC featherweight title. It appears he will get his wish as the UFC announced Pettis vs. Aldo is set to go down in Aug ust.

Pettis is coming off a huge TKO of Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC on Fox 6 while Aldo is still clasping his belt after defeating Frankie Edgar in a tough, five-round fight at UFC 156. The tentative schedule for the Pettis-Aldo clash to go down is Aug. 3.

UFC 156 Prelims Break Previous Record

The UFC 156 prelims drew 1,897,000 viewers, besting the previous mark for prelims on FX set by the bouts prior to Michael Bisping and Vitor Belfort clashing with one another. UFC 148 drew 1.8 million viewers as well. The numbers represent a big jump from the preliminary contests prior to the UFC on Fox 6 event which drew 1,208,000.

The main notable fighters competing on the UFC 156 prelims were Evan Dunham defeating Gleison Tibau via decision and Tyron Woodley dropping Jay Hieron in 36 seconds via TKO.

One FC’s April 5 Event to Be Headlined by Lightweight Title Fight

Singapore’s One Fighting Championship’s event scheduled for April 5 will feature a lightweight title fight. Kotetsu Boku will make his first title defense against No. 1 contender and perennial top-10 lightweight, Shinya Aoki. Boku won the title back in October while Aoki is coming off an impressive KO of former MFC champ Antonio McKee.

The April 5th event will be available on streaming from www.onefc.livesport.tv for the price of $9.99. The undercard fights are available for free.

Sean Pierson Out of UFC 158 Contest Against Rick Story, Quinn Mulhern Steps In

Sean Pierson has been forced out of his contest with Rick Story at UFC 158 and Quinn Mulhern has been named as his replacement. Story has dropped three of his past four fights including an ugly loss to Demian Maia. Mulhern, a Strikeforce veteran, will be making his UFC debut and is riding a three-fight win streak.

UFC 158 is set to take place on March 16 from the Bell Centre in Montreal. The scheduled main event will feature UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre defending his belt against former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz.

Cage Warriors Announces Title Additions to Cage Warriors: 54 Card

Cage Warriors announced that its Cage Warriors 54 card will feature two title bouts. Swansea’s John Phillips will attempt to take the CW middleweight title from Jesse Taylor. The card will also feature Conor McGregor defending his lightweight title against a to be announced opponent.

Cage Warriors 54 is set to go down on May 4 from the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.
