Keeping with recent tradition, the UFC’s Memorial Day event in Las Vegas has a heavyweight flavor.

On the Tuesday night edition of UFC Tonight, it was revealed that heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will rematch Brazilian Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in the main event of UFC 160 on May 25. The fight is a rematch of a UFC 146 bout in which Velasquez battered Silva en route to a TKO victory.

But that’s not the only bout to push the scales to their limit at the event.

In a battle of decorated strikers looking to rebound from losses, former Strikeforce champion Alistair Overeem will take on former UFC champion Junior dos Santos. Overeem was expected to challenge Velasquez next, but was shockingly knocked out by the aforementioned “Bigfoot” at UFC 156 on Feb. 2. Similarly, dos Santos was battered over the course of five rounds in his own rematch with Velasquez at UFC 155 in December.

With Silva’s third-round upset of Overeem, the division was left without a clear-cut No.1 contender and the promotion decided that the resurgent Brazilian would be the best to challenge Velasquez for the belt.

Dos Santos had politicked heavily for a rubber match with Velasquez after knocking out the decorated wrestler at UFC on Fox 1 to claim UFC gold. Instead he will have to overcome the K-1 Grand Prix winner Overeem to get a chance to recapture the belt.

The event is slated for the MGM Grand Garden Arena and will air live on pay-per-view. The night’s undercard is expected to be split between FX and YouTube.

More fights for the event are expected to be announced in the near future.
